Located in the heart of the French Riviera, Villeneuve-Loubet offers the advantages of both a Provençal village and a seaside resort, earning it the nickname of “the greenest of blue towns”, well deserved for its beaches, world-famous marina and forests dominated by its world-famous mediaeval castle (13th c).

On its hillside, our Provençal village stretches like a ribbon to the banks of the Loup River where Nature still reigns almost supreme. Countless historical figures have left their mark here over time: Romeo de Villeneuve, the Lascaris, Holy Roman Emperor Charles V and especially French King Francis I, who stayed at the castle in June 1538.

Villeneuve-Loubet is also the birthplace of Auguste Escoffier, “Chef of Kings and King of Chefs,” who invented the Peach Melba and whose birthplace is now the Museum of Culinary Art. This taste for fine things is celebrated here through many events dedicated to gastronomy and the arts of the table. In his honour, Villeneuve-Loubet organises the Fêtes Gourmandes, the 20th of which is scheduled for 20, 21 and 22 July 2012.

This town also like to define itself as the French Riviera's Family Destination with its two Départemental Parks and recreational areas offering infinite possibilities for sports, water sports and outings.

It was built in the 13th century, at the instigation of the Counts of Provence and Romeo of Villeneuve. Ramparts and parapet walks are punctuated with five round towers and a mediaeval drawbridge.
