Vence and its surroundings

Very close to the coast is the Pays Vençois, dotted with characteristic Provençal villages. The town of Vence, built in the shape of a snail, is a bustling, cultural and festival place. The extraordinary charm of St-Paul de Vence has made it famous around the world. The region is notable for its artistic and cultural activities (Fondation Maeght, prestigious galleries). Also, its natural assets, between limestone mountains and wild scrubland (Col de Vence), make excellent excursions. The Pays Vençois also includes the Gorges du Loup, waterfalls (Courmes, Demoiselles, Saut du Loup) and climbing, with the Baou de Saint-Jeannet (807 m) overlooking the coast of the Cote d'Azur.
