1st Gardens Festival of the Côted'Azur

1st April - 1st May 2017
The Department of the Alpes-Maritimes has decided to celebrate this priceless heritage through a new event: The Garden Festival of the Côte d'Azur, which will take place from 1 April - 1 May, 2017, with the theme: “Awakening of the Senses”.

Gardens have contributed greatly to the reputation of the Côte d’Azur and nowadays they constitute a first-class botanical heritage. In this playground for the 19th century aristocracy, winter visitors who were keen on gardening had all the leisure they required to acclimatise species brought back from their travels and thus create extraordinary gardens.

The Official Festival will consist of a competition of garden design in pop-up gardens of 200 m², installed in town centres in the most beautiful sites in the departement: Cannes – Garden of the Villa Rothschild; Menton – Biovès Garden; Grasse – Esplanade Honoré Cresp; Nice – Albert 1er Garden on the Promenade du Paillon; Antibes – Pinède Gould at Juan-les-Pins.

The competition was launched at the Gardens event at the Tuileries Gardens in Paris on 3 juin.

The Fringe Festival will allow the whole Côte d’Azur to join in enjoying the luxuriant and remarkable vegetation heritage. On the agenda: events, talks, exhibitions, open doors, guided tours.

The UNEP (Union Nationale des Entreprises du Paysage / National Union of Landscape Businesses) which has advised the Department since the start and the ELCA (European Landscape Contractors Association) will participate in the Festival.
