Autumn is almost here, ideal for evenings by the fireside in cosy restaurants… with family or friends. The finest tables feature chestnuts, olives and olive oil, truffles… All these products define the identity of the French Riviera for moments of sharing when the watchword is conviviality!

These delicacies can be sampled in oil mills and chic specialized shops, at the finest chefs’ tables, during the trade fairs punctuating the month of November, in cooking classes in anticipation of the festive meals of December… This is the occasion to scour the Alpes-Maritimes département to discover its villages and their producers… from Menton to Grasse.

 Salons pour gourmands  
 
The gourmet programme starts on 20 November at the Salon des Saveurs et Terroirs en Méditérranée in Mandelieu-La Napoule: three days to discover delectable gifts for the holiday season, and appreciate the feats of the region’s great chefs.  

It continues with the Salon du Sucré & du Chocolat, which opens in Antibes on 28 November for two days dedicated to sweets.

 

 Moulins à huile de la Côte d’Azur  
The Alpes-Maritimes’s oil mills
The Alpes-Maritimes’s oil mills welcome you to reveal both the heritage of these traditional buildings and the processing of olives to make oil. Nice is proud of its "AOC Olive de Nice" label, using the variety of olive trees known as cailletier, hailed by olive growers and gourmets alike. 
 
In particular, the Journée des Moulins à Huile des Alpes-Maritimes, a special tribute to local oil mills, is scheduled for Saturday 28 November, with the participation of sixteen mills to show visitors how olive oil is made and offer a chance to taste the product of the 2009/2010 season. The truffle
There is a truffle market in Guillaumes on 19 December. And every year, Jacques Chibois, Chef (2 Michelin stars) at La Bastide Saint-Antoine, organizes his famous truffle market in Grasse in January!

Cooking classes
Don’t forget that many cooking classes teach you how to prepare the Holiday Season: making your own terrine and enjoying sautéed duck "foie gras" served with tagliatelle seasoned with violets (www.la-cuisine-des-fleurs.com)...
