The exhibition will run from October 30 to January 18, 2010. It will feature two sections: Matisse’s photographs, new acquisitions and Matisse’s Tahiti photographs.
The first part comprises the museum’s new purchases. Twenty-three photographs in all: originals, modern prints, countertypes, countertypes reproduced by digital photography -, taken by great photographers such as Hélène Adant or Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau.
The second part is an exhibition of twenty-eight photographs (including eight new acquisitions) taken by Matisse himself during his stay in Tahiti in 1930. They provide a unique insight into the artist’s view of the space of the Polynesian islands that were to inspire his art.
